Gentle lead

We got my daughter Laila a new mini labradoodle puppy in May.

Jet is now 8 months old and my part in all of this is walking him in the mornings.

I love to walk. It really starts my day off great and many times I’m walking and talking with friends or listening to a favorite podcast. When I added Jet to this mix it was a disaster.

Jet would stop and start. Want to go where I didn’t. Pull incessantly and stop to mark all of the trees and garbage cans. If another dog came our way, he would almost yank my arm off he got so excited and aggressive. If a leaf blew his direction or a shiny something caught his eye he would take off and I would have to correct him over and over to try keep him on task, but it wasn’t working.

I had had it.

I didn’t know how to keep him calm, focused and not pulling all of the time.

Jet was distracted by all of the wrong things on our walk. He was focusing on this leaf and this dog and this tree instead of the walk.

Then we got Jet a “gentle lead” type of collar. Instead of the leash hooked up to Jet’s collar around his neck the gentle lead hooks it up to his nose - his snout and pulls his head around to keep him focused. It’s been a game changer. He’s easily re-directed and teachable.

Our morning walks are so much better and my arm is grateful and not sore from being yanked about so much.

We could all use a “gentle lead” couldn’t we? Something that would keep us focused and headed in the right direction?

What are you focused on?

Are you dwelling on the negative parts of your life?

Worrying about your troubling relationships, money problems and work issues?

Comparing your life to your neighbor’s, or sister’s that seems to be perfect?

How lonely you are or lack of friends?

What to do now the kids are all gone and you have no purpose?

If I could yank your collar and correct you like I do Jet and tell you to knock it off, I would!

FOCUS IS EVERYTHING

Wayne Dyer quote: “We expand what we focus on.”

Robert G. Allen Quote: “Whatever you focus on, expands. If you see the world through your dreams, prosperity materializes before your very eyes. If you see the world through your fears, poverty multiplies all around you.”

Oprah Winfrey quote: “ What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it.

Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life.”

Robin S. Sharma Quote: “What you focus on grows, what you think about expands, and what you dwell upon determines your destiny.”

Having a life coach is like putting on a “gentle lead.” It can help you reframe and reprogram your mind to get out of the struggle and focus on what’s really important.

I look forward to my morning walks with Jet now, and I look forward to coaching with all of you.
